Meet Iron Man Senior: Lew Hollander. He’s the oldest man in the world to compete in an Iron Man…ever!
For the last three years, every time he has laced up and raced an iron man (58 times to be exact) – he’s been the oldest person that ever lived to complete the feat. And no wonder. An iron man consists of:
- a 2.4-mile swim
- a 112 mile bike ride
- a 26.2 mile run
To clarify, Iron Man Senior: Lou Hollander runs these together as one giant race. Hollander was 82 when he first broke the Guinness World Record for Oldest Ironman. Today he is prepping for his 59th Ironman race (and preparing to break his own record).
What’s even more fascinating – Lew didn’t even begin competing in Ironman competitions until he was 55 years old. He had recently retired and was hungry for a new challenge. “Use it or lose it,” he quipped. Lew is great example of what the mind and body can do with determination and belief in ones self.
